In my GCSE class today we were discussing the ordination of Libby Lane and I asked the children their thoughts on the matter. The most common response was that passages in the New Testament that condemned women having authority in the church were to be interpreted in light of the patriarchal cultural context of the time. Now we live in a society were both men and women are considered equal in status, and therefore women are of importance in the leadership of the church and the pastoral support of their congregants.

I believe that it is good that female bishops and priests have been approved, I believe this because women and men should be treated equally. An example of when women have had to fight for there rights would be the suffragets and this current event as women had to fight for the right to have a major religious role in a christian community.

In my opinion, every human should be allowed to worship excluding their sex. If you are passionate of doing something, handicap does not matter. For example, Lionel Messi who is the one of the best footballer in the world had a dieases which was hard to be recoverd. However he continued to work on his dream which was to be a footballer, and he managed to achieve his goal. Also Margaret Thatcher is the only female prime minister in UK. Therefore, I think it's entirely fine to allow women being a bishop.

I think that this is a good step forward for the Church of England because this act shows that women have as much right as men when it comes to religion. Also this may encourage women to join this religion because it demonstrates that they will be treated equally to men in this religion

I think in modern society that this should have been done a long time ago such as when women first got right. The problem was some people are still subcosionly sexist, not in the way that women are infra but that women have certain jobs and men have certain job. I still don’t like that this is not accepted everywhere in every church. I am glad it is being allowed and I hope this acceptant of change will carry on.

I believe that women should be able to become bishops. The quote Gen 1 'So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.' This means that every one was created equal in gods image at the same time. Although this is old, it can still be relative today. Therefore women and men should both have the opportunity to become bishops.

I think that the fact that they are making women bishops is good as it shows that the world is moving forward form the past where women were expected to stay at home and work were as men were expected to go and work for the family. This shows that the church is taking the first step to creating a fair and equal community were everyone has a shot at any position and that nobody is limited just because of their sex. Therefore I think that it is good that women are being ordained.

I firmly believe that men and women are equal. There is no reason to believe one has more rights than others, as we all have no choice as to what gender we are. Mainly, as it is just a combination of chromosomes and not a spiritual identity gained from another point in time. In concept of the church,"all of of you are G-d's children... no difference... between men and women, you are all one in union with Christ Jesus." This passage shows that there is no distinction found through G-d, which is also a way of saying there is no hierarchy that should govern how the church act towards you, therefore, women should have as much rights in being ordained than men.

I believe that the ordination of women is a good thing to happen as it shows religiously, humanity can move past gender stereotypes and thus show that everyone is equal. We are shown this in Galatians 3 'there is no difference between... men and women' this quote tells us that not only there should be equality among genders but also references religious beliefs like being a Jew or not. Therefore because now society and religion are now on the same level women can and should be ordained.

I think that men and women should be equal in every aspect of life, even in Christianity which holds strong tradition/teachings to this day. Teachings such as ‘eve was made from Adams rib’, which means that men have superiority, are simply outdated and need to be adapted to modern day society. The ordination is a great step forward not only for the church but also for its followers. Religion and Christianity as previously shown in history can have a massive influence on people. The ordination of Rev Libby Lane is a huge statement, yet the church is still widely male. This needs to change as I would believe it to be quite off putting to a female worshiper. After all, spirituality is related to the mind and not the body.

I strongly believe that men and women are no different in terms of equality. The bible clearly states this equality "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."Gen 1:27 it shows that no man has power over woman because God created us all EQUALLY. If the 'Creator of all' (God) tells us that he created both sex's equaly then why can't they do the same Jobs as men, why haven't they been able to practice their faith with such a role for the same period of time men have? The church of England is all for following the word of the God, God told us we are equal, so why only now has a woman been given this role? However it is it a good thing that the Church of England accept women it shows they are becoming more accepting in society but I feel it should never have taken almost 500 years for a Female bishop to come about.

I believe that men and women are no different in terms of equality because God has made both of them.I am glad it is being allowed in church of England that women can become a priest because we have to bring change in our society as we need to realise that women are equal to men. The part I am not happy about is that there are not many women priests across the Uk.Also this may encourage women to join this religion because it shows that they will be treated equally to men in this religion.

I think that the ordination of women in the Church of England is a good thing and it will help society understand to not be sexist towards women. Many Christians would agree because it says in Gal 3 ‘no difference…. Between men and women’ this means that men and women have no difference and should be treated the same. Therefore I think it is good that women can be ordained.

Men and women were created equally "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."Gen 1:27 This tells us that no women is inferior to men because God created us equally so why does humanity feel the need to be sexist? Women can only have a positive effect on the Church and can probably do some aspects of the job better than men... It shouldn't have taken so long for women to been given this role, however, it is a good sign that society is accepting them and not pushing them away just because of their sex.
